Forging is a manufacturing process where a metal is shaped by applying compressive forces, like hammering or pressing, to a heated metal workpiece, causing it to deform and take on a desired shape using dies, thereby improving its strength and grain structure; essentially, it's a method of shaping metal through controlled deformation with a hammer or press, often at high temperatures.
Triton Global partners with a few oversea forging shops that can produce cold forming and hot forming steel parts, brass parts etc. These forged parts are used in high-stress applications like automotive components, machinery parts, and structural elements due to their improved mechanical properties. They have better strength especially impact strength and fatigue strength over cast metal parts.
For most forging applications, carbon steel is considered the best metal due to its excellent combination of strength, malleability, and ability to be easily shaped at high temperatures, making it ideal for a wide range of forging projects; particularly "mild steel" (low carbon steel) is a great starting point for beginners. Stailess steels are also forgeable but can be more challenging due to its higher alloy content.
